Maixabel

A taut political drama from acclaimed filmmaker Icíar Bollaín (Rosa’s Wedding, Yuli), Maixabel is the inspiring true story of a woman who dares to take a courageous step towards peace and forgiveness.

In the year 2000, Maixabel Lasa’s husband, Juan María Jaúregui, was killed by ETA. Eleven years later, she receives an incredible request: one of the men who killed Juan wants to meet with her in the Nanclares de la Oca prison in Álava (Spain), where he is serving his sentence after breaking ties with the terrorist group.

Despite her reservations and to the shock of those around her, Maixabel agrees to meet face-to-face with those who ended the life of the person who had been her companion since she was 16 years old.

Winner of Best Actress at the 2022 Goya Awards, Blanca Portillo (La Fortuna, Volver, Broken Embraces) delivers a superb performance alongside an outstanding ensemble cast including Luis Tosar (Out in the Open) in this emotional film about restorative justice.
